Twitter/X is a social media platform where you can share your thoughts and connect with like-minded people but like any other social media, companies and individuals have used it to distribute their products and services. In the booming era of content marketing, companies or individuals find it easy to get clients/customers without conventional methods like cold calling or cold emailing.

This is the reason why I decided to start content marketing in the first place to get clients for my agency and later thought of shifting attention to cold emailing after I created a well-working system for it. But things changed and I began working on personal branding, that’s a story for next time. The point is I realized building a system and understanding algorithms both will take time as I have spent around 22-23 days on X as a full-time content creator but still haven’t understood things completely. (I understood one thing why developers of X are paid so well).

In this blog, I will share my learnings, my mistakes, and my plans for growing on X. I have divided it into 3 sections.

  • My understanding of X.

  • What is my analysis?

  • What are my plans?

My Understanding of X’s Algorithm

2 types of users create content on X.

  1. People with tons of experience and expertise.

  2. People who are very early in their career.

People with experience and expertise have a lot of valuable insights and learnings which when reach other people’s screens attract them with ease, whereas people who are very early in their career fail to do the same and therefore either they pretend to be someone else (copy other’s posts) or learn and observe others to move from their level to expertise.

I started with copying other’s writing styles, hook creation, and content types but soon realized this wasn’t me and focused on learning these skills individually.

Now coming back, for creators who lie in the second category it’s important to think logically. X is nothing but a Social Media Platform (Social ~ Networking and Media ~ Online) which meaning to grow we need to connect/network with others. Here are 2 ways to network with others on X.

  • Comments

  • DM

Commenting on other creator’s posts makes you visible in the eyes of all the followers of that creator. If those followers like your comment they will probably visit your profile and if they like your profile they will follow you, simple as that. That’s why making good comments is an important step in growing on X.

When you make good comments and come to notice of the creator, it’s time to DM him/her talking about why you like their work. The aim is to build your group of creators who will engage with your posts regularly so that your posts appear on their follower’s feeds. This only becomes possible when you make strangers your friends or share with them values for free. It’s obvious you don’t have to sound desperate, there are millions of creators, go to next.

While you grow your audience it’s also important to learn and practice more of your skills or the topics you talk about on X (Remember expertise can easily attract more).

What is my Analysis?

Whenever you start on X, there is a huge probability that you will face the beginner obsession and depression of looking at your followers list, your stats, and other people’s number of posts to followers ratio. I too faced it but now began to do work without thinking of the results (not completely ).

The first step is to forget about your followers list, it will increase when you get good.

If you write more long-form content on X, you will face the challenge of either focusing more on networking or focus on remaining consistent with the post creation. I am still facing this issue and I comment on 10-15 posts only and post 3-4 posts on average, which according to me is below-average to see the growth.

The second step is to start building systems from your first post. I have systems for a few of my posts, few just come by, and commenting is random.

When you are not sure what you are doing, you copy the bio from accounts that look like your final goal but understand that you only have 160 words to write in your bio and each word should hold a deep meaning about you. This will only happen when you know exactly what you are doing and who are your ideal readers. So when your ideal reader visits your profile and your post fulfills the promise mentioned in your bio then they follow you.

The third step is to know your reader which is your niche, and build your profile accordingly. If you are not sure who your reader is(like me), give some time and observe what you like to write about. It’s about trying and learning.

What are my plans?

After these many days, today I have planned new approaches to grow on X which are:

DM and Comments

  • Create a list of 10 creators (7 small creators → similar to me, 2 medium creators → less than 10k, 1 huge creators → 10k to 100k+) at the start.

  • Comment 2 useful comments on each creator, then move to the DM.

  • If they reply and his/her vision matches mine they will be inside my creator’s group otherwise they are out of my list.

  • Explore and comment on other new creators, add them to the list, and continue the cycle.

Content

  • Fix a time for each type of post, as this would help me to build habits and manage my time effectively.

  • Use X on my phone, write down the hook that caught my attention, and try to create a framework if possible.

I still need to learn a lot of things and apply them, this will take time and I will give it. Growing an audience is like growing bamboo, it takes and takes from you and returns exponentially after a long time.

You can follow me on X at:

That’s all for DAY6.
