The history of Artificial Intelligence is like the story of Peter Parker from Spider-Man, Once an ordinary high school kid becomes the hero of everyone.
Similarly, AI has seen a similar development, starting from teaching machines through codes to generating a complete book on business from a single sentence.
In this blog, we will look at:
The history of AI development.
What is Generative AI?
How is Generative AI the next revolution after the Internet Revolution?
History of AI
We are not going to talk about when was this term tossed or what were the major events. We will look at the most important developments that led to AI at a level we are witnessing right now.
I have divided AI development into 3 stages.
Stage 1: Crawling AI.
Stage 2: Walking AI.
Stage 3: Teenage AI.
We will understand each stage with the help of the dog (sorry cat lovers nothing personal).
Crawling AI
This was the stage where we had to write codes to make machines learn what a dog is like and how to recognize a dog.
We had to mention each detail like a dog is an animal with 4 legs, 2 ears, and so on. From these details, machines understand what a dog is.
Walking AI
This was the stage where we gave machines a lot of images of dogs which helped them to differentiate between a dog and a cat.
Now if we gave a new photo and asked the machine if it was a dog or not, it answered YES or NO.
Teenage AI
This stage is where the golden era of AI has begun. This is a stage when I give the word dog, machines generate a picture of a dog.
This is what Generative AI is and we are going to learn more about it.

Stages of AI
Generative AI
Generative AI uses deep learning to predict what comes next after a word (for language model) or after one pixel(for image model).
I know a lot of new words, Let’s understand everything step by step.
We know that machines are trained on sample data so that they analyze it, find patterns, and learn from it. The result we get is a Machine Learning Model, which is capable of giving results for the new input.
Now based on the sample data type: Texts or Images we get Language Models and Image Models. Train them on huge amounts of data they become Large Language models or Large Image models.
So for reference let’s say we have a language model and I give an input “Hello”, the model will use NLP to understand the meaning of the sentence and predict/generate what comes next after “Hello” based on the sample data it has learned from. Therefore it will reply by saying “Hello, How are you? “.
Natural Language Processing(NLP) is the process of converting the text or the sentence we gave to the machine into a language the machine understands.
That’s it, Generative AI is capable of generating texts, images, and videos equivalent to what humans can and it is getting better and better every day.
Why should I even care?
Sam Altman, the founder and CEO of OpenAI, said that “soon, with AI, it will be possible for one person to run a billion-dollar company”.
Imagine someone taking the sales calls, customer service, marketing, managing customer relationships, managing your social media, suggesting you in your business decisions and the list goes on, without you spending more on each department, that is what Generative AI is capable of and is getting better at doing it.
As a business owner or professional it’s up to you, either you start leveraging AI in your business/life or your competitors use it to win over your customers. Just like businesses who came over the internet in the early 2000s got an upper hand in the internet revolution, it’s up to your decision to invest in technology early on.
